The renovation of Fürdő neon sign

The renovation of Fürdő neon sign

I’m happy to announce the first renovation project by Cső which is the Fürdő neon sign placed in Kürt street. The building itself was originally a public bath in the old days when having an own bathroom was not common. Nowadays ‘Menhely’(=Shelter) Foundation works there as a help center for homeless people. However, it’s not open to the public anymore; the sign is still a lighting direction for people in need.

The neon sign itself is a pretty simple one with capital letters but with the little wave underneath makes it really cute. Another interesting detail is the implementation of the “Ő” and “Ű” characters (Hungaromlauts). As it's pretty difficult to bend such tiny forms like these accents from glass tubes, one piece of glass was used for each letter to solve this problem and the tubes were simply painted between the accents and the stems. The outcome from the viewer’s perspective is to be able to read the word easily, without discovering this little “cheat”.

All the letters were filled with neon gas so they glow in red except for the blue wave, which is created with argon gas.
