Save Budapest’s last remaining neon signs!

“Let Budapest be as bright as Paris,” declared the Party’s new directive in 1969—and within three years the capital was blanketed with many thousands of neon signs. Yet residents were sometimes bothered by the light and the neons’ “buzzing,” leading to lawsuits. Then the state companies were dissolved, the glass tubes broke, and the lights slowly went out. Today only a few hundred unique masterpieces remain; committed citizens, at the eleventh hour, want to act and are asking for help from the Budapest Metropolitan Municipality.
